Our great Nation is poised to celebrate 75th Year of Independence as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM). It is a proud moment for all of us. ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in the same vein as that of our Nation. NRRI has planned Special Talks and events during next one year in the run up to completion of 75 years of our Independence that will culminate on 15th August, 2022. A Workshop-cum-Training program was organized on “Integrated Pest Management of Rice” by the Crop Protection Division at ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack on 07-08, October, 2021. 25 trainees including newly joined M.Sc and PhD students of the division, technical staff were participated in the training program. The major objective of this two days program was to sensitize the participants with different diseases, insect pests and nematodes of rice, with special emphasis on their identification, loss estimation, laboratory techniques in isolation and characterization of microbes, mass rearing of insects, role of weather parameters in pest/disease incidence, and right use of pesticides to control these problems. Practical demonstration on mass rearing of insect bio-control agents like Trichogramma, seed treatment and right method of pesticide application in the field was performed. NRRI technologies for integrated pest management, more importantly RiceXpert mobile App was demonstrated to the trainees.
Valedictory session was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Dipankar Maiti, Director, ICAR-NRRI in which, Course Coordinator (Pathology), Dr Raghu S presented a brief account of the programme. Dr. Prakash Chandra Rath, Course Director & Head, Crop Protection Division informed about the existing knowledge gaps in pest identification and proper pesticide selection. Dr. Dipankar Maiti, Director, ICAR-NRRI urged the trainees to utilize and dissaminate knowledge learnt to solve the problems of the farmers. Dr. Golive Prasanthi, Course Coordinator (Entomology) of the programme proposed vote of thanks.
