CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMMES FOR RURAL YOUTH

Training programme on Method of Seed Production in Vegetables 

A 5-day skill development training programme for rural youth on “Method of Seed Production in Vegetables” was organized by KVK Cuttack from 26-30th June, 2018 at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack, Odisha. Twenty five (25) rural youths from five blocks of Cuttack district of Odisha have actively participated in the programme. Dr H Pathak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack, Dr Mayabini Jena, Head, Social Science Division and Dr DR Sarangi, Officer-in-charge, KVK spoke about the importance of seed production and proper marketing facility. Various experts from KVK Khordha, ICAR-Central Horticultural Experimental Station, Eastern region and Deputy Director, Horticulture and Dr TR Sahoo, Course coordinator demonstrated skills on seed extraction and processing techniques and imparted training on different concepts like seed village programme, formation of farmers producers group and linkage with certain marketing agencies.

Skill Training on ‘Protected cultivation of high value vegetables’

KVK Cuttack organized a six-day training programme for 15 no. of participants on “Protected cultivation of High value vegetables” at KVK campus, Santhapur under Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) scheme in association with IMAGE, Bhubaneswar and MANAGE, Hyderabad, sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, from 25 to 30 January 2019. Dr. H Pathak, Director, NRRI, Cuttack inaugurated the programme and advocated for protected cultivation in changing environmental scenario for judicious water use. Sri PC Sahoo, DDA, Cuttack and Sri Kalyan Ray, Dy Director, IMAGE, Bhubaneswar urged participants to utilize government assistance and ensure marketing of specific products. Dr TR Sahoo, SMS (Horticulture) and training coordinator meticulously conducted the training programme with the help of experts from KVK Cuttack, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Central Horticultural Experimental Station, National Horticultural Board and Deras Farm along with certain successful entrepreneurs in protected cultivation. An exposure visit was made to DERAS Farm and CHES. In the valedictory function, Dr GAK Kumar, Head, Social Science Division emphasized on developing business plan and establish market linkage before going to produce vegetables inside a greenhouse. Dr. DR Sarangi, OIC, KVK Cuttack requested youth mass to come in large number and improve their knowledge, skill through KVK technologies.

Skill Training on ‘Feed and fodder management in livestock’

KVK Cuttack organized a six-day training programme for 15 no. of participants on “Feed and fodder management in livestock” at KVK campus, Santhapur under Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) scheme in association with IMAGE, Bhubaneswar and MANAGE, Hyderabad from 16 to 21 March 2019. Dr RK Mohanta, SMS (Animal Science) and training coordinator meticulously conducted the training programme with the help of experts from KVK Cuttack, Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Govt. of Odisha, Central Avian Research Institute Regional Centre, Bhubaneswar. An exposure visit was also made to visit demonstration plots of feed preparation units, fodder demonstration units and live birds demo units at ICAR-CIWA, ICAR-CARI Regional Centre and ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack. Dr. H Pathak, Director, NRRI, Cuttack distributed certificates on the closing day and advocated for use of technology for economic gain. Dr GAK Kumar, Head, Social Science Division emphasized on market linkage whereas, Dr. DR Sarangi, OIC, KVK Cuttack requested youth to take the advantage of KVK technologies.
