Inauguration of Kisan Mela and Public Amenities
A Kisan Mela was organized on 26th February 2019 in ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack. Farmers from various districts of Odisha participated this fair. They were made to acquaintance with the new techniques of farming on this occasion. An exhibition was organized to demonstrate the various uses of agricultural technology/modern agricultural science/ agricultural machinery/etc.
Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare inaugurated the Kisan Mela. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship was the Guest of Honour on this occasion. In the beginning of the programme, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra welcomed the Union Ministers and invited dignitaries.

Addressing the farmers, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Shri Radha Mohan Singh said that Govt. is bound to achieve the goal of doubling farmers income. He also spoke about the various central Govt. schemes related to agril. & allied sector & their operation and achievements.
In his speech he has informed the public how e-NAM, MSP, RKVY, NFSM, NHM, PMKSY, PMFBY and other schemes are benefitting millions of farmers across the country. He has dedicated the newly inaugurated Country’s 1st Genomics & Quality laboratory at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack to farmers of the Nation.
During his speech he has fundamentally emphasized on development of villages to achieve the goal of National Development and said that farmer’s development can be a very significant initiative for it.
Hon’ble Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan while addressing the gathering emphasized on linkage between Agril & Petroleum Ministry. He said that if the major portion of agricultural waste can be used for energy generation it would be a significant move to augment farmers income & it will help in making India independent in energy sector.
Shri Radha Mohan Singh and Shri Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the newly built Genomic Research Centre in the National Rice Research Institute. Genomic Research Centre is a technological cluster of 11 laboratories equipped with modern technologies namely- Environmental Soil Science Laboratory, Soil Quality Laboratory, Pesticide Residue Laboratory, Genomic Selection Laboratory, Marker Assisted Selection Laboratory, Bioinformatics and SNP Genotyping Laboratory, Grain Quality Laboratory, Food Proximate Analysis Laboratory, Molecular Biochemistry Laboratory, Nutrition and Sensory Laboratory.
Followed by this, Hon’ble Union Ministers inaugurated public amenities of Post Office and Railways and Foundation of Sishu Sadan at K.G. National Memorial Trust, Satyabhamapur by E-Plaque in the presence of other dignitaries.
On this occasion a farmer-scientist interaction session was also organized in which the scientists discussed with farmers about the problems related to farming and suggested fruitful ways to sort out. A visit to the experimental farm of the institute was organized in which the scientists made the farmers to know about the new techniques of the farming.
About 3000 farmers participated in this fair. The best farmers were felicitated on this occasion for their innovative practices in the field of agriculture.
In the concluding session of the programme, Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director, NRRI offered vote of thanks to the Union Ministers, invited dignitaries, DG, ICAR and all the participating farmers.
