Farmers’ Fair and Exhibition Advances Agricultural Technology in Nagaland

The Regional Rainfed Lowland Rice Research Station (RRLRRS), Gerua, Hajo, Assam, a regional station of ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI), Cuttack, successfully organized a Farmers’ Fair and Exhibition on March 20, 2025, at Medziphema, Nagaland under NEH Component. The event was held in collaboration with the ICAR Research Complex for the NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, with the goal of empowering tribal farmers through technological advancements and input support systems.
Shri Zhaleo Rio (Retd. IAS), Local MLA and Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Government of Nagaland, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the significance of modern agricultural practices and technology adoption to enhance productivity and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
Several dignitaries, including Dr. Girish Patil, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr. M.J. Baig, Director’s Nominee, ICAR-CRRI, Cuttack, Dr. I. Shakuntala Devi, Dean, C.V. Sc. & AH, CAU, Jalukie, Peren and Dr. H. Kalita, Head of Regional Centre, ICAR Nagaland, addressed the gathering. Dr. Kanchan Saikia, In-charge Head, RRLRRS, ICAR-CRRI, Gerua, delivered the vote of thanks.
The exhibition featured agricultural technologies displayed by ICAR-NRC on Mithun, ICAR Nagaland Centre, Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Dimapur, Peren and Wokha, the School of Agricultural Sciences and the Central Institute of Horticulture. The event provided farmers with valuable insights and tools to enhance agricultural productivity.
With participation from over 250 farmers and 20 officials from various departments, the event successfully fostered collaboration between scientific institutions and the farming community, aiming for long-term improvements in agricultural practices across Nagaland. Additionally, essential agricultural inputs, including seeds and small implements, were distributed to support sustainable farming efforts, fostering long-term collaboration between research institutions and the farming community.
