Workshop on “Empowering Women Groups through Entrepreneurship Development” on September 09, 2022
Women empowerment through group approach is one of the most crucial and effective approaches for self-employment and entrepreneurship development as women have the most practical approach and deal with ground realities in everyday life. Keeping this point in view, a workshop was conducted on “Empowering women groups through entrepreneurship development” by ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack in the NRRI auditorium on September 09, 2022 involving women self-help groups (SHGs) from Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri and Khordha districts involving more than 300 lady participants.
Shri Jagannath Saraka, Hon’ble Minister, Law, ST & SC Dev., Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare, Govt. of Odisha joined as the Chief Guest and briefed about the government schemes related to women empowerment post covid-19 that has disturbed the economic status of many families. Besides that, it is the mandate of the government to work for the upliftment of the downtrodden and economically weak population. Smt. Basanti Hembram, Hon’ble Minister, Women and Child Development, Govt. of Odisha graced the occasion as Guest of Honour and requested the participants to uplift their livelihoods through self-employment getting involved in entrepreneurship generating activities. “Mission Shakti” is working towards this direction. She urged the participants to take the benefits of the government initiatives. Dr. B.C. Patra, the Director of ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack discussed about the work being carried out under SCSP programme by the institute and emphasized on the necessity of women empowerment to ensure nutritional and financial security of every family as a unit and India as a whole. Smt. Shreemayee Sweta Snigdha Mishra, INWEC Member, Indian Chambers of Commerce’s Women Wing, Odisha & Ex-Chairperson, Mahila Vikash Sambaya Nigam emphasized on the need for women empowerment for improvement of family income and health status. Earlier, Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Head, Social Science Division, NRRI welcomed the guests and at the end Dr. B. Mondal, Nodal Officer, SCSP offered the vote of thanks.
In the technical session, Ms. Sukriti Patnaik, Convener, Indian Chambers of Commerce’s Women Wing, Odisha, Ms. Tanaya Patnaik, Executive Director, Samvad Group and Ms. Debjani Das, Secretary, Radharani Self-Help Group discussed on various themes on the topic of workshop, namely, ‘Entrepreneurship: The Journey’, ‘Branding and Marketing’ and ‘Millet Mission’, respectively followed by active interaction with the participants. The participating SHGs discussed their queries with the experts and SCSP Committee members. Some SHGs were honoured to recognize their contributions to the society on this occasion. The group members dispersed with motivation for self-employment with a goal on entrepreneurship development individually or as a group.
