Visits of the Delegates from Gates Foundation and IRRI
ICAR-NRRI hosted a team of delegates including Dr. Gary Atlin and Dr. Kishore Rao from the Gates Foundation & Dr. Sankalp Bhosale and associates from International Rice Research Institute. The team discussed with Director Dr. A. K. Nayak and scientists of NRRI, regarding critical issues of rice farming viz., the development of climate resilient varieties with multiple stress tolerance, suitable for direct seeding; reduction of methane emission; genome editing for rice improvement; improvement of biofortified and aromatic short-grain rice; herbicide tolerance for direct seeded rice and breeding program modernization. Besides, strategies to accelerate varietal turnover through genomic selection were also focused for necessary research collaboration.
