Training programme on Method of Seed Production in Vegetables
A 5-day skill development training programme on “Method of Seed Production in Vegetables” for Rural Youth was organized from 26-30th June,2018 at KVK Cuttack, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack, Odisha.Dr Himanshu Pathak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack graced the occasion as Chief Guest and spoke about the importance of seed production in vegetables as new avenue for income generation and self employment. He stressed upon the proper marketing facility needs to be strengthened. Dr Mayabini Jena,Head, Social Science Division graced the occasion as Guest of Honour and highlighted upon the insect pest attack on vegetable seeds in storage which requires utmost care.Twenty five (25) rural youths from 5 blocks of Cuttack district ofOdisha have participated in the programme. Various experts from KVK Khordha, ICAR-Central Horticultural Experimental Station, Eastern region and Deputy Director, Horticulture imparted training on seed production technology meant for vegetables. Different concepts like seed village programme, formation of Farmers producers group and linkage with certain marketing agency have emerged to resolve the marketing issues. Dr Tusar Ranjan Sahoo, Course co-ordinator demonstrated skills on seed extraction and processing technique. Participating rural youths had gone through pre-test and post-test evaluation process and found 36% changes in their knowledge level. Officer-in-charge Dr DR Sarangi and other subject matter specialists Dr RK Mohanta and Dr M Chourasia of the KVK actively participated in the above training programme.
