Successful Conclusion of AgriVision-2024 organized at NRRI, Cuttack Unveils New Horizons in Scientific Advancements

The 6th International Conference on “AgriVision-2024”, a prestigious gathering of the brightest minds in rice research and climate resilience drew to a close on 22.1.2024 with resounding success. The event jointly hosted by ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack (NRRI) and Society for Agricultural Research & Management (SARM), Cuttack spanning for three days, brought together scientists from ICAR institutes, researchers and experts from other prestigious organizations to shared groundbreaking discoveries, fostered collaborations, and paved the way for future innovations.
Dr. P.K. Sahoo, Director, Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar graced the closing function as the chief guest while Dr. Prasannajit Mishra, Dean (Extension), OUAT, Bhubaneswar was the Guest of Honour. Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI presided the valedictory function.
The conference featured a plethora of insightful presentations and discussions, showcasing the latest breakthroughs in climate-resilient technologies developed by NRRI. In addition to formal presentations, interactive workshops and panel discussions arranged by the SARM delved into pressing issues within the field. These sessions facilitated a dynamic exchange of ideas, offering participants a platform to engage with experts and gain deeper insights into emerging trends.
The chief guest, Dr. Sahoo, while addressing the august gathering said that the diverse perspectives and collaborative spirit witnessed during throughout the conference will undoubtedly catalyze groundbreaking research in years to come aimed for the sustainable agriculture which integrates environmental health, economic profitability and social equity.
The Guest of Honour in his keynote speech said that the world is confronted with unprecedented challenges, from climate change to resource depletion and biodiversity loss. The traditional models of agriculture are not just insufficient to contribute significantly to these challenges. Technology is a powerful ally in the quest for sustainable agriculture. From precision farming to data analytics, emerging technologies like Artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and blockchain in sustainable agriculture is going to play a pivotal role in transforming our food systems.
The Director, ICAR-NRRI shared his view that sustainable agriculture is the need of the hour and rice research stands as a beacon of hope in this endeavor. The development of high-yielding and resilient rice varieties by ICAR-NRRI not only has increased rice productivity in the country but also withstood environmental stresses such as drought, floods, and pests. By cultivating these varieties, farmers are reducing their dependence on chemical inputs, making the agricultural system more sustainable in the long run.
In the beginning of this concluding programme, Dr. M J Baig, Convenor, AGRIVISION-2024 welcomed all the guests and dignitaries while Er. Dibyanshu Das, Program Director offered a vote of thanks.
