RAWE/RHWE Programme at KVK Cuttack
KVK Cuttack hosted thirty three 4th year B.Sc. (Ag.)/B.Sc. (Hort.) students from different colleges of Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, namely twenty from College of Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, six from College of Agriculture, Chipilima,three from College of Agriculture, Bhawanipatna, and four from College of Horticulture,Chipilima. In this rural agricultural/ horticultural work experience programme spanning eight weeks duration, the students were exposed to recent advances in crop production sector that are applicable in field conditions like use of customized leaf colour chart for judicious use of nitrogen, use of soil health card for judicious application of fertilizer, importance of azolla as biofertilizer and animal feed, Rice Xpert App, high protein rice, protected cultivation, offseason cropping along with other practical information. DrHimanshu Pathak, Director, ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack interacted with the students about technologies developed from NRRI for the use of rice cultivators and different aspects of climate change. Dr DR Sarangi, Officer-in-Charge and an expert on Soil Science, Dr TR Sahoo, expert on Horticulture and Dr M Chourasia, expert on plant protection regularly interacted with the students and answered the queries raised by the farmers through phone or at interaction time. Dr RK Mohanta coordinated the programmeand taught them how to interact with farmers and do the participatory rural appraisal along with involving them in crop yield and production practices survey linking with CSISA ODK survey using learning by doing method. Finally, they were evaluated and joined the institutes after successful completion of the programme.
