Promoting Sustainable Farming: Workshop on Conservation Agriculture in India Highlights Key Strategies and Benefits
A workshop on the prospects of conservation agriculture in India was jointly organized by the ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack on 10 July 2024 under the project consortium research platform on conservation agriculture (CA), in collaboration with the National Academy of Agricultural Science (NAAS), Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Chapter, and the Indian Society of Soil Science, Cuttack Chapter. Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack chaired the programme and discussed innovative techniques and the adoption of CA principles that can lead to significant improvements in resource efficiency and agricultural resilience against climate change. Dr. A.K. Biswas, FISSS & FNAAS, Principal Scientist & Former Head, Soil Chemistry & Fertility Division, Consortium Leader, CA Platform, ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science gave a noteworthy lecture on Prospects of Conservation Agriculture in India’. He emphasized the critical importance and potential benefits of conservation agriculture in the Indian context. Dr. Biswas highlighted the need for sustainable farming practices to ensure long-term soil health, water conservation, and enhanced crop productivity. Dr. Pratap Bhattacharyya, Head, Crop Production Division delivered at another lecture on Conservation Agriculture in relation to climate change. At the outset, Dr. Sushmita Munda, Sr. Scientist and PI (CRP on CA) welcomed all the dignitaries and Dr. M. Shahid, Sr. Scientist offered the vote of thanks.
