NASF-Funded Workshop on TechSIM concluded at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack
The NASF-funded national workshop on “Developing Simulation Model of Technology Diffusion (TechSIM), Adoption, and Impact for Forecasting Using Techno-Socio-Psycho-Economic-Ecological Factors” concluded on October 5 2024 at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack, in a hybrid mode. In the concluding session, Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Head, SSD and Course Director of the workshop presented the workshop report. Dr. K.C. Bansal, Former Director, NBPGR, New Delhi was the special guest of the function. Dr. Bansal highlighted the lessons learned from the adoption of Bt cotton, emphasizing the importance of biosafety, farmer education, and the careful evaluation of genetically modified crops for their socio-economic and ecological impacts. Dr. A.K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VII, Umiam was the chief guest of the valedictory function, and he emphasized on modernization of social research methodologies in the areas of conservation agriculture, digital agriculture, use of drone in agriculture, and climate change. He also highlighted the need to strengthen extension research, for enhancing the process of dissemination and adoption of innovative agricultural technologies. Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack presided over the function and motivated the participants with his encouraging remarks on identifying, measuring, and analysing the process of technology adoption and diffusion through different social simulation models. The workshop aimed at enhancing the understanding of the stages of adoption, their broader impact on diffusion of technological innovations, and modelling them using appropriate software. Dr. N.N. Jambhulkar, Sr. Scientist, SSD offered the formal vote of thanks and Dr. S. Paul, Sr. Scientist, SSD coordinated the valedictory function.
