International Women’s Day-2021 Celebrated

ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack virtually celebrated International Women’s Day, 2021 on 8th March, 2021. The theme for this year’s event was “Choose to Challenge”. The theme aimed to highlight the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Council has kept the theme as “International Women’s Day: Women Leadership in Agriculture: Entrepreneurship, Equality & Empowerment” to acknowledge the role women in agriculture. Dr. Padmini Swain, Head, Crop Physiology & Biochemistry Division welcome all the dignitaries. The meeting was presided by Dr. Dipankar Maiti, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack. The occasion was graced by Dr. Alok Kanungo, Chairman and Managing Director, Kanungo Institution of Diabetes Specialties, Bhubaneswar as Chief Guest. Dr Kanungo highlighted on women’s empowerment and their immense contribution to the society. He emphasized that while every day is a women’s day, this particular day is marked to honor all the women and their achievements regardless of the divisions, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political back ground.
Dr. Rina Routray, Chairperson, Mahila Atmanirbhar Abhiyan and Odisha Gandhivadi Forum attended the Programme and Dr. Mausumi Maiti, President, Ladies Club, NRRI and Principal, Vivekananda Central School, Hazaribagh as Guest of Honor. Dr Rina Routray deliberated on women empowerment and Dr. Mausumi Maiti highlighted the contribution of women in the society.
Progressive farmwomen were also felicitated for their unparallel contributions in the fields of agriculture and farming.
The occasion also marked the release of ICAR-NRRI Varta Video and Video made by Dr. Rina Routray, Chairperson, Mahila Atmanirbhar Abhiyan and Odisha Gandhivadi Forum to dedicate all the women in the society for their immense contributions. More than hundred persons virtually participated the event.
