Inaugural Programme of the “18th Parthenium Awareness Week” at ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack
Inaugural programme of Parthenium Awareness Week- 2023 was organized by Institute Swachha Bharat Committee on 16 August 2023 at 3.30 PM in the institute K Ramaiah Conference Hall. Dr. S. Lenka, Chairman, Institute Swachha Bharat committee welcomed the august house and briefed about the importance of Parthenium Awareness Week and also weeklong activities that will be carried out during 16-22 August 2023. During the inaugural programme, two lectures were delivered by experts Dr. Raghavendra Goud, Scientist (Agronomy) & Dr. Basana Gowda G, Scientist (Entomology) on the topics “Introduction, identification, harmful effects & cultural, herbicides management of Parthenium” and “Management of Parthenium weed by use of biocontrol agents”, respectively. Dr. P. Bhattacharya, Head, Crop Production Division, in his observatory remarks highlighted the importance of controlling such dangerous invasive weed and also suggested alternative management practices for the same. Director of the Institute, Dr. M.J. Baig in his presidential remarks appealed all the staff of the institute to remove the Parthenium before flowering if anyone see it in the field. The inaugural programme was coordinated by Dr. Prashantkumar S Hanjagi, Convener of Institute Swachha Bharat Committee. The programme ended by vote of thanks by Dr. N. N. Jambhulkar Member, Institute Swachha Bharat Committee.
