ICAR-NRRI organized a high end workshop on GC-MSMS from 22-31 July, 2024

ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack organized a high end workshop on “GC-MSMS for quantification of pesticides and profiling of metabolites” during 22-31 July, 2024. The workshop has been sponsored by Accelerate Vigyan Scheme of Science and Engineering Research Board, India. Thirty number of Ph.D. and M.Sc. students representing 24 institutes from 16 different states participated in the workshop.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Jitendra Kumar, ADG, NASF, and Dr. V.K. Jain, Former Director of Environment and Natural Resources at Gujarat University. Dr. S.D. Mohapatra, Head of the Crop Protection Division, highlighted the institute’s achievements and aspirations. Extensive training on chromatography, with a focus on GC-MS/MS, was facilitated by application specialists from Spinco India Pvt. Ltd and Thermo Fisher India Pvt. Ltd. Expert lectures on pesticide residue analysis were delivered by notable figures such as Dr. Kaushik Banerjee, Director of NRC Grapes; Dr. Vandana Tripathy, Project Coordinator of AINP on Pesticide Residues; Dr. Niladri Chatterjee, Senior Scientist at CIFT; and Dr. Hans-Joachim Huebschmann, Certified Food Chemist and Consultant at HANS Analytical Solutions The workshop also covered metabolite profiling with contributions from Research Unit Leader for Consumer-driven Grain Quality and Nutrition at IRRI, Philippines; Dr. Niladri Chatterjee, Senior Scientist at CIFT; and Dr. Bimal Prasanna Mohanty, former ADG (Inland Fisheries) at ICAR, New Delhi. The training was further enriched by sessions from Dr. Totan Adak and other experts. Participants expressed high satisfaction with the training.
Dr. Bimal Prasanna Mohanty graced as the Chief Guest for the valedictory session, while Dr. M.J. Baig, Director (In charge), ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack was the chairperson and emphasized the importance of utilizing the skills and knowledge gained during the training. Dr. S.D. Mohapatra, Head of the Crop Protection Division, encouraged trainees to stay in touch with the group and explore new developments in their respective research areas. Dr. Totan Adak, was the Course Director, and Dr. Arabinda Mahanty, was the Course Coordinator of this programme.
