ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack trains Tribal Farmwomen of Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal in “Quality Paddy Seed Production”
A three-day training Programme is being organized from September 28-30, 2023 at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack on “Quality Paddy Seed Production” under Agribusiness Incubation Centre. Tribal farmwomen and farmers from Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha participated in this programme. Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack in his illustrative inaugural speech highlighted the scope for enhancing livelihood of tribal farmers through quality seed production by following modern and scientific technologies and methods. He further shared with the participants the deliverables and achievments of the institute in this specific direction and in safeguarding food security of the nation. He added that only a synergistic collaboration will help in advancement of the rice industry of the country. In course of the training programme, the participants will be imparted necessary knowledge and skills on quality seed production, variety selection, seed health management, crop insect-pest management, crop disease management, seed storage & pest management, post-harvest processing and value addition in rice. In addition, they will visit the institute farm to gain first-hand knowledge on paddy seed production under upland direct seeded condition. Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Head, SSD briefed about the importance of the training programme. The training programme is being coordinated by Dr. B.C. Marndi, Senior Scientist, Crop Improvement Division and Dr. S. Paul, Senior Scientist, Social Science Division. Dr. B. Mondal, Principal Scientist, Social Science Division delivered the formal vote of thanks.
