ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack demonstrated Drone technology in more than 100 acres area

Department of Agriculture and Farmers welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India has sanctioned central assistance to ICAR for demonstrating Drone Technology for implementation of Component No. 1 under Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) during the period of 2022-2023. Under this mission, it has been directed to conduct large scale demonstrations to promote use of Drone Technology in agriculture. ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack has conducted series of demonstration on Drone Technology from 28th October to 7th November, 2022 in different villages of Cuttack district covering 108 acres of rice crop area in 9 villages belonging to 4 blocks of Cuttack district, Odisha. More than 1000 farmers and farm women were participated in demonstration programmes. We have enlightened the farmers on usefulness and mechanism operation of drone technology especially in crops like rice considering its wetland nature and amount of pesticides being applied. The Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack along with all heads of the divisions attended one such demonstration programme at Satyabhamapur village, Cuttack on 5th November, 2022. The above programme was sponsored by central sector scheme of Department of Agriculture and Farmers welfare, Government of India and it was implemented through ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata. All the demonstration programmes were coordinated by Mr. Asit Kumar Pradhan, Scientist and Nodal officer, Social Sciences Division and Dr. Basana Gowda G, Scientist and Nodal officer, Crop Protection Division, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack.
