Field Day on Groundnut
To promote oilseed cultivation through area expansion and productivity enhancement, KVK Cuttack has chosen 20 ha area in 50 farmer’s field in Beliapal, Badamba block under CFLD oilseed programme for 2018-19. PRA and other surveys were conducted to identify the problem and prioritization thereof on groundnut cultivation. The farmers’ use promising variety AK-12-24 and due to imbalanced fertilizer use and lack of basic fertilizer schedule the harvested groundnut are small, with hollow pods and yield is low. To alleviate this problem, KVK Cuttack provided “Sulphur”, the secondary fertilizer and micronutrients zinc and boron to the farmers as technological intervention.
A field day on groundnut was organized by KVK Cuttack at Beliapal, Badamba on 16.10.2018. This was conducted under the chairmanship of Dr DR Sarangi, OIC, KVK Cuttack where Miss Prabhati Ram, AAO, Badamba joined as chief guest and addressed the gathering of 80 farmers. They explained about the role and importance of secondary nutrients as well as micronutrients for higher production and productivity of groundnut. Dr TR Sahoo, SMS (Horticulture), nodal officer, CFLD (Oilseed) discussed about the beneficial effect of nutrient management, analysis of benefit, cost ratio and other advantages provided by KVK. Farmers were excited about this interaction and more farmers have shown their willingness to join this programme next season. Farmers using the technology shared their experiences and other participants shared their views.
