Empowering Entrepreneurs: Five-Day Training on Technology-based Rice Insect Pest Management at ICAR-NRRI

The Agribusiness Incubation Centre (ABI) of ICAR-National Rice Research Institute (NRRI), Cuttack, organized a five-day training program on Technology-based Entrepreneurship Development in Rice Insect Pest Management from 15 to 19 July 2024. Fifteen participants, including entrepreneurs and farmers from various districts of Odisha attended the program.
The inaugural session, chaired by Dr. M.J. Baig, Director of ICAR, NRRI highlighted the significance of technology in entrepreneurship for rice insect pest management. Dr. Golive Prasanthi welcomed the participants and outlined the programme’s objectives.
During the training, participants learned about new developments in technology and creative approaches to managing rice pests, including drone technology, pheromone production technology, mass production of biological control agents, solar-based alternate energy light traps, and bio-pesticide production. The programme also covered topics such as organic food certifications, business plan strategies, legal entity registrations for IPM-related enterprises, and the detection and treatment of diseases using green technology.
The concluding session, chaired by Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack. Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Head, Social Science Division encouraged the participants to implement the learned technologies to address farmers’ challenges. Dr. Golive Prasanthi was the Course Director and Dr. Keerthana U and Ms. Shrutisnata Panda were the Course Coordinators of the programme.
