Empowering Agriculture: Nature-Based Solutions for the Farmers
Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition organized by ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack was held at Titrapanga village of Khajuripada Block, Kandhmal district on 21 February 2024 under Tribal Sub Plan. Altogether 600 farmers and farmwomen participated in this programme. During this programme farmers were trained and provided inputs towards nature based solutions in agriculture. Besides NRRI, Department of Agriculture & Horticulture, Government of Odisha, KASAM and other three NGOs working in Kandhamal also participated. Value added products developed from rice were special attraction in this exhibition which were displayed by women self-help groups of Bandhasahi, Pitabali and Titrapanga villages. These SHGs were trained and supported by NRRI. The different technologies and production developed by NRRI were exhibited for the benefit of farmers. In his address, Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack explained the significance of nature based solution to the farmers and encouraged them to adopt a value chain strategy in order to optimize their income. Shri Sukanta Panigrahi, a social worker and agricultural expert advised the farmers to collaborate with line departments and research institutes. Towards the end, there was an interaction between scientists and farmers where the farmer shared their experiences with natural farming.
