CRRI Empowers Vulnerable Rice Farmers to Tackle Climate Change
In a bid to transform farmers from climate change victims into resilient climate warriors, a four-day training program on “Improved Paddy Production Technologies According to Changing Climate” successfully concluded at the ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI), Cuttack. The programme, sponsored by ATMA Darbhanga, Bihar, took place from January 6-9, 2025, and welcomed 24 farmers from the vulnerable regions of Darbhanga district, Bihar.
The primary goal of the training was to equip farmers with scientific knowledge on enhancing rice productivity and ensuring sustainability amid climate challenges. Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-CRRI, Cuttack chaired the valedictory function, and emphasized the urgent need for widespread adoption of climate-resilient farming practices and technologies. He stressed that implementing such innovations would be critical for long-term agricultural sustainability. Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Head, Social Science Division underscored the importance of a sustainable seed system as the foundation for climate resilience. Dr. S. Paul, Senior Scientist, SSD, served as the Course Director for the programme, guiding the participants throughout the training. This initiative marks an important step in equipping farmers with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the challenges of climate change and ensure the future of rice farming in vulnerable regions.
