arORIce Project launched at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack
A launching workshop for the RKVY-Odisha sponsored project titled 4S4R Model for Production, Marketing and Export of Odisha Aromatic Rice (arORIce) organized on 7th December 2022 at ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack. About 75 number of officials and farmers participated in the launching event. Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director chaired the programme and said that documentation of the performance indicators and milestones to be framed early to assess the impact indicators. He emphasized that market segment domestic and international needs to be identified and market linkage needs to be established. Sri Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi, APEDA Member graced the occasion as chief guest and stated that standards need to be set for non-basmati aromatic varieties, which meets the ISO standards tapping both internal as well as external needs of aromatic rice based on the dietary preference of the consumers. Dr. A.K. Shasany, Director, ICAR-National Institute for Plant Biotechnology, New Delhi was guest of honour and he emphasized that training module for Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) needs to be formulated. Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Principal Investigator of the project elaborated the workshop objectives and briefed about the project activities. During technical session, roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders were discussed and brainstorming session held to decide various modalities of the project. Earlier Dr. Biswajit Mondal, Co-Principal Investigator welcomed the guests and Dr. Supriya Priyadarsani, Co-Principal Investigator proposed vote of thanks, while Dr. Sutapa Sarkar, Co-Principal Investigator coordinated the whole programme.
