Animal Health Camp under TSP
In Ramathenga village of Jajpur Block, an animal health camp-cum-awareness campaign was organized on 27th June 2018 under Tribal Sub-plan Scheme of ICAR-NRRI Cuttack. About one hundred livestock sheds were cleaned and disinfected using lime and bleaching powder along with control measures for ticks. The affected animals were examined by Dr. RK Mohanta and Dr. AK Das and line of treatment of suggested along with treatment of some cases. Among more than 150 livestock examined, the most common problems were found to be FMD, followed by ticks and internal parasites, repeat breeding, and infertility. Most of the livestock sheds were not having pucca floor, which was one of the factors responsible for negative health condition and productivity status of the animals.
Animal Health Camp at Bandhasahi and Pitabari and Training Programme under TSP
In Bandhasahi village of Kandhamal district, an animal health camp was organized on 5th October 2018 under Tribal Sub-plan Scheme of ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack. The afflictions of animals were examined by Dr RK Mohanta, assisted by local livestock inspectors Ms Gayatri Dalabehera and Sri Nrusinghanath Das and line of treatment of suggested along with treatment of some cases. Among more than 250 livestock examined, the most common problems were found to be ticks and internal parasites followed by repeat breeding, infertility and diarrhea. Most of the livestock sheds were not having pucca floor, which was one of the factors responsible for negative health condition and productivity status of the animals. The livestock were supplemented with mineral-vitamin mixture to improve their body nutrient status and overall health and advised to do routine deworming.
In Pitabari village of Kandhamal district, an animal health camp was organized on December 21, 2018. The animals were examined by Dr RK Mohanta and Dr Sangram Keshari Sahu, assisted by livestock inspector, Sri Nrusinghanath Das and line of treatment of suggested along with treatment of some cases. Out of the 145 livestock presented, the most common problems were found to be ticks and internal parasites followed by diarrhea, poor health, and low milk yield in lactating goats. The farmers were advised to do routine deworming and vaccination along with feeding of the supplemented mineral-vitamin mixture to improve their body nutrient status and overall health.
After completion of the Animal health camp, a hundred farmers, farmwomen and rural youth actively participated in a training programme on “Small-scale farming for livelihood and nutritional security”. Dr RK Mohanta discussed about scientific livestock keeping technologies and also about the role of nutrients for keeping production and reproduction status livestock and how they ensure nutritional security. Dr SK Sahu discussed about the schemes and facilities available by Government of Odisha.
Animal Health Camp-cum-Disease Awareness Programme
In Kankali village of Tangi-Choudwar Block, an animal health camp was organized by KVK Cuttack on 21 January 2019. The animals were examined by Dr RK Mohanta, SMS, Animal Science and line of treatment of suggested along with treatment of some cases. Among more than 282 livestock examined, the most common problems were found to be ticks and internal parasites followed by diarrhea, poor health, repeat breeding and infertility. Most of the livestock sheds were not having pucca floor, which was one of the factors responsible for negative health condition and productivity status of the animals. The farmers were advised to do routine deworming and vaccination along with feeding of the supplemented mineral-vitamin mixture to improve their body nutrient status and overall health. The local panchayati raj members and farm families showed their active participation in the programme for ensuring their livestock health and productivity.
