Advancing Rice Innovation: Unveiling the M.S. Swaminathan Genome Editing Laboratory
Laying foundation stone for Bharat Ratna Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Genome Editing laboratory marked a significant leap forward in the capabilities of the institute for large scale genome editing work, particularly in rice improvement. Genome editing, a cutting-edge technique, allows for precise targeting of specific genes to enhance desired traits. This facility is funded by the CRISPR EFC grant of ICAR, New Delhi and this state-of-the-art facility aims to span an area of approximately 600 square meters. It will encompass various laboratories tailored to support different stages of genome editing work including media preparation, autoclaving, cloning, tissue culture, transformation, and hardening. Beyond facilitating research, this facility will also serve as a hub for human resource development in genome editing. The integration of genome editing techniques is anticipated to significantly amplify genetic advancements in rice, fostering progress in various trait improvements.
Foundation stone of the laboratory laid virtually by Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Hon’ble Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR in the presence of Dr. R.C. Agrawal, DDG (Education), ICAR, New Delhi; Dr. A.K.
