Training for Pranimitras on ‘Scientific Feed and Fodder Management’ 

KVK Cuttack organized a five-day capacity building training programme for grassroot level extension workers named ‘pranimitras’ at KVK Cuttack campus, Santhapur during 16-20 November, 2019. Twenty-six pranimitras of Badamba and Narasinghpur block of Cuttack District participated in this programme. About 75% of the trainees are working in the field for last 1-2 years as grassroot level. As nutrition plays a major role in the life of livestock, the program was designed to learn the basics of feeding, feed preparation and acquint the trainees with commonly used nutritional supplements and injections. So, Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohanta, SMS (Animal Sc.) and the training coordinator, conducted theory and practical classes on feed and fodder management along with answering queries and constraints faced by the trainees in field. As nutrition, reproduction, vaccination and management play a major role in small ruminant life, they were exclusively trained on these aspects in addition to practical aspects on taking temperature and administration of vaccines. As the basics has to be understood, the trainees devoted their time in evening hours also to understand about the commonly used medicines, nutritional supplements, fluid therapy. The training resulted in 32.1% improvement in knowledge base among the participants. Dr Dillip Ranjan Sarangi, OIC, KVK Cuttack and the Chief Guest, advised the participants to dedicate themselves for upliftment of the rural folk and distributed certificates among the participants along with other guests and KVK experts namely Dr RK Mohanta, Dr TR Sahoo, and Sri D Jena. All the staffs of KVK Cuttack worked hard for success of the program.
