Training for Pranimitras on ‘Scientific Advances in Sheep and Goat Production’
KVK Cuttack organized a five-day capacity building training programme for grassroot level extension workers named ‘pranimitras’ at KVK Cuttack campus, Santhapur during 26-30 August, 2018. Twenty five pranimitras and one official of Odisha Livelihood Mission of Badamba and Narasinghpur block of Cuttack District participated in this programme. About 80% of the trainees had not taken any training after their recent recruitment. So, Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohanta, SMS (Animal Sc.), the training coordinator, conducted theory and practical classes on sheep and goat production along with answering queries and constraints faced by the trainees in field. As nutrition, reproduction, vaccination and management play a major role in small ruminant life, they were exclusively trained on these aspects in addition to practical aspects on taking temperature and administration of vaccines. As the basics has to be understood, the trainees devoted their time in evening hours also to understand about the commonly used medicines, supplements, fluid therapy. In collaboration with Distance Education Cell, OUAT, Bhubaneswar we facilitated the trainees to have distance education on ‘Livestock Rearing’ and ‘Poultry Rearing’ to clear the fundamental knowledge. The training resulted in 49.3% improvement in knowledge base among the participants. Dr Antaryami Khuntia, the Chief Guest and expert on Animal Nutrition briefed them about practical problems to be faced by pranimitras in field and how to solve them. Dr Dillip Ranjan Sarangi, OIC, KVK presided over the concluding programme and distributed certificates among the participants along with other guests and KVK experts namely Dr RK Mohanta, Dr TR Sahoo, and Sri D Jena.
