Parthenium Awareness Programme organized by ICAR-NRRI at Paikan Village, Cuttack
Institute Swachha Bharat Committee and the Schedule Caste Sub-Plan Committee of the institute jointly organizing the XIX Parthenium Awareness Week during 16-22 August, 2024 as a component of “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. On this occasion, a programme was organized on 20th August, 2024 in Paikan village of Cuttack district to make the people aware about Parthenium menace and its management. Dr. B. Mondal, Principal Scientist and Chairman, SCSP committee; Dr. N. N. Jambhulkar, Sr. Scientist and Member, Institute Swachh Bharat Committee; Mr. Ajay Kumar Nayak, Pharmacist and Member, Institute Swachha Bharat Committee and other members of the committee viz. Mr. J. P. Das, Mr. K. Munda, Mr. A. K. Bhoi, Mr. Narayan Bhoi, Mr. B. C. Bhoi and villagers participated in the Parthenium cleaning drive in the village and roadside. Dr. B. Mondal educated the villagers about its identification, harmful effects, control measures and eradication measures. Dr. N. N. Jambhulkar elaborated how the weed was introduced in the country, its germination and spread. Mr. Ajay Kumar Nayak explained about the harmful effect of the Parthenium on human beings and their medical symptoms. About 80 persons attended the awareness programme and cleaning drive.
