Pioneering Pest Management: NRRI’s Pheromone Production Unit to Revolutionize Crop Protection in Odisha
A Pheromone Production Unit was developed through RKVY-Odisha funds, which is equipped with cutting-edge facilities and a dedicated focus on revolutionizing pest management strategies. Presently, the unit produces pheromones to monitor and manage various insect pests like rice yellow stem borer (Scripo lure), rice lead folder (Cnaphalo lure), tobacco cut worm and fall armyworm (Spodo lure), fruit borer (Heli lure) and near future other lures will be produced and supplied to farmers for installation at the right crop-stages to manage the menace of target pests. The pheromone lure production activities of the Pheromone Production Unit and future plan of trap and lure production to fulfil the emerging needs of Odisha’s farmers, paving the way for sustainable agriculture and improved livelihoods.
This facility was inaugurated by Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Hon’ble Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR through virtual mode and in the presence of Dr. R.C. Agrawal, DDG (Education), ICAR, New Delhi; Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack, Dr. P.K. Roul, Vice Chancellor, OUAT, Bhubaneswar & Dr. S.K. Pradhan, ADG (FFC), ICAR, New Delhi during 79th Foundation Day and Dhan Diwas of ICAR-NRRI on 23 April, 2024.
