Smart Agriculture to cope up with Climate Change

ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack organized a “Kisan Gosthi” at Mandelia Ground, Sambalpur to aware farmers about the problems of climate change and its consequences like drought, submergence, high temperature and changing diseases pest scenario and how to cope up with these problems to make agriculture sustainable and profitable. In this function around 600 farmers and farmwomen from all the blocks of Sambalpur district were participated.
For this function, Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, NRRI was the chief guest, Dr. Pradeep Dey, Director, ATARI, Kolkata and Dr. (Prof.) P.J Mishra, Dean Extension, OUAT, Bhubaneswar was also guest of honour. Scientists from ICAR-NRRI, ICAR-CIWA, ICAR-IIWM, CHSE, CTCRI-Regional station, RRTTS, OUAT, KVKs, College of Agriculture, Chiplima, OUAT and department of agriculture, Sambalpur were present. Also scientists from KVK, Sambalpur, KVK, Bargarh and KVK, Jharsuguda were also present.
Around 20 stalls were there by NRRI, OUAT, CIWA, IIWM, CHES, CTCRI-RS, FCI, KVKs, agriculture department and other line department.
Director, NRRI briefed about the climate smart varieties of rice like CR Dhan 800, CR Dhan 802, CR Dhan 802, CR Dhan 413, which can tolerate drought, submergence in addition to bacterial blight resistance. He also emphasized to adopt high protein and zinc rich varieties like CR Dhan 310, CR Dhan 311, CR Dhan411 (Swarnanjali) etc. He mentioned about the cultivation of aerobic rice varieties like CR Dhan 206, CR Dhan205, CR Dhan 210 etc. that can be cultivated under limited water availability. He also briefed about various production and protection technologies like use of 5 panel leaf color chart for efficient nitrogen management to minimize N loss. Use of rice-N-expert for better management of rice crop for higher production and productivity.
Dr. Pradeep Dey, Director, ATARI, Kolkata appealed the farmers to consult KVK scientist and scientist of nearby ICAR institute scientist to solve the problems of rice and other crops. He also advised the farmers to be aware up about the recent innovations and developments to tackle the problems and make farming profitable.
Dr. P.J. Mishra, Dean Extension, OUAT also briefed the farmers about the technologies developed by OUAT to solve the problems faced by the farmers.
Shri G.S Singh, CDAO, Sambalpur briefed farmers about various scheme of Govt. to enhance the production and profitability of farmers and appealed them to take advantage of it.
At last, vote of thanks was extended by the organizer of Kisan Goshti and Head, Crop Protection Division Dr. S.D. Mohapatra. He appreciated the participation of farmers in large number and took keen interest in this function. He also thanks all officials including district administration, line departments and press and media for wide coverage of the function.
