Interaction-cum-Awareness Programme on Rice Stem Borer management in Hirakud Command areas organized

Considering the rice stem borer infestation in summer paddy in the Hirakud Command areas of Sambalpur district of Odisha, a scientific team lead by Dr. S.D. Mohapatra, Head, Crop Protection Division, ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack visited Sambalpur and interacted with Shri Gouri Shankar Singh, Chief District Agriculture Officer (CDAO), Shri Uma Shankar Mishra, District Agriculture Officer, Sambalpur, Block Agriculture Officer, Assistant Agriculture Officer and Input dealers of different blocks of Sambalpur district. In the interaction-cum-awareness programme organized at Seed Certification Office at Dhankauda block of Sambalpur district on 6th March 2024, Dr. Mohapatra presented the factors responsible for rice stem borer outbreak in the Hirakud Command areas and the possible solution to manage the pest. In the programme, pheromone traps and lures were distributed among the farmers participated from different blocks. The team members of ICAR-NRRI including Dr. GP Pandi, Dr. S Lenka along with DAO and farmers visited the stem borer affected fields of Gopalpali village of Dhankouda block and discussed with the farmers about the infestation level and suggested control measures. Dr. S Srichandan, Head, KVK Sambalpur, Dr. Atanu, Entomologist from RRTTS, Chiplima also participated in the discussions. Shri U.S. Mishra proposed vote of thanks.
