Innovations in Rainfed Lowland Rice Farming: Empowering Farmers for Sustainable Production
Regional Rainfed Lowland Rice Research Station (RRLRRS) of ICAR-National Rice Research Institute situated at Gerua, Assam organized farmer’s training programme on “Recent Development in Production of Rice in Rainfed Lowland” on 29th February, 2024 under the NEH component. The programme commenced with the welcome address of Dr. Kanchan Saikia, In-charge Head, RRLRRS-NRRI, Gerua.
Technical sessions of the training were “Economical aspects of rice production in rainfed lowland”, “Rice based cropping system in rainfed lowland”, “Various scientific cultivation practices in rainfed lowland rice” and “Paddy cum fish culture in rainfed lowland”. Former OICs of this research station, Dr. N.K. Sarma and Dr. R. Bhagawati were also present in the training programme and delivered lecture on “Heritages and historical importance of rice in Assam” and “NRRI Rice Varieties suitable for NE Region”, respectively.
A total of 219 farmers belongs to Kamrup, Nalbari, Barpeta, Darrang, Charaideo, Dibrugarh and one Hilly district of Assam state West Karbi Anglong and West Garo Hill district of Meghalaya participated in the training programme. During the training programme, garden tools, green shade net, vermi bed and irrigation pipes were distributed amongst 92 beneficiaries for their capacity building and 138 beneficiaries were received 500 saplings of arecanut, 500 saplings of Assam Lemon and 410 saplings of black pepper under the NEH component for the improvement of their livelihood.
Mrs. Sikimoni Baruah, Senior Technical Officer hosted various events of the training programme and Shri Dibakar Khan, Senior Technical Officer, RRLRRS-NRRI, Gerua, Assam has proposed vote of thanks.
