A five-day training programmme on “Advanced Rice Based Production Technologies Suitable for NEH Region” organized from 15-19 January 2024 at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack. Twenty KVK officials from NEH region participated in this training programme. Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack in his illustrative inaugural speech highlighted The North-Eastern Himalayan region, with its rich biodiversity and distinct agro-climatic conditions, presents both challenges and opportunities in the realm of agriculture. Rice, being a staple crop in this region, plays a pivotal role in the livelihoods of millions. Therefore, it becomes imperative for us to harness the power of innovation and technology to enhance productivity, ensure food sufficiency, and uplift the socio-economic status of our farmers.
He further shared with the participants the deliverables and achievements of the institute in this specific direction and in safeguarding food security of the nation. He added that only a synergistic collaboration will help in advancement of the rice industry of the country. In course of the training programme, the participants will be imparted necessary knowledge and skills on quality seed production, variety selection, seed health management, crop insect-pest management, crop disease management, seed storage & pest management, post-harvest processing and value addition in rice. In addition, they will visit the institute farm, laboratory, Oryza museum. Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Head, SSD welcomed the participants and encouraged them to actively participate, exchange ideas, and embrace these advanced technologies with an open mind. The knowledge and skills gained here will not only benefit individual farmers but will have a cascading effect on the entire community, contributing to the overall prosperity of the North-Eastern Himalayan region. The training programme is being coordinated by Dr. B. Mondal, Dr. N.N. Jambhulkar and Dr. S. Paul.
