ICAR Sports Tournament for Eastern Zone 2023 (TEZ–2023) Unveils a Spectacular Showcase of Skill and Sportsmanship
The ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, takes immense pride in hosting the prestigious ICAR Sports Tournament for Eastern Zone 2023 from December 13 to 16, 2023. This sporting extravaganza is set to witness over 500 players from 21 ICAR Institutes across the Eastern Zone, showcasing their prowess in various sport events.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Chairperson, Protection of Plant Variety and Farmers Right Authority, New Delhi, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the sports meet. While addressing the gathering, he said that sports events results in holistic development of personality, physically fitness, mentally sharp, emotionally balanced and socially well adjusted. The Director of ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack, Dr. A.K. Nayak, officiated the opening ceremony, marking the commencement of a series of diverse sports events. In his address, he said that sports provide a platform to develop different social values such as co-operation, assertion, responsibility, sympathy and self-esteem. Participation in well-organized program improves the social interaction among the people.
The tournament encompasses a diverse array of sports, including High Jump, Long Jump, Athletics, Short Put, Javelin Throw, Discuss Throw, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Cycle Race, Cricket, Kabaddi and more. The event is not only a celebration of athletic excellence but also a testament to the spirit of unity among the Eastern Zone states.
The Organizing Committee, headed by Dr. M.J. Baig, Chairman, extended a warm welcome to the participating institutes and players and Dr. Pratap Bhattacharya, Secretary of Organizing Committee expressed his gratitude in the vote of thanks. After the inauguration programme, a captivating cultural program featuring the enchanting ‘Gotipua dance of Odisha’ was organized.
