National workshop on “Navigating Climate Change and Livelihood Development of Farmwomen in India”
National workshop on “Navigating Climate Change and Livelihood Development of Farmwomen in India ” organized by Astitwa, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with ICAR – National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack with an objective to empowerment farmwomen through drudgery reducing technologies in agriculture and to overcome various vulnerabilities in agriculture amidst climate change crisis.
A Bhubaneswar based non-government organization Astitwa in collaboration with ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack organised this workshop on 4th December 2023 at ICAR-NRRI Cuttack.
The Inaugural session of the workshop was presided over by Prof. Bedabati Mohanty, President of Astitwa in the benign presence of Prof. Sabita Acharya, Vice Chancellor, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar as Chief Guest. Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack and Prof. S.N. Pasupalak, Former Vice Chancellor, OUAT as Guests of Honour. Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest Professor Acharya emphasized on the climate change and its impact on humanity particularly on farmwomen.
Dr. A.K Nayak focused on the various challenges of climatic change on Agricultural sector and the qualitative research and proactive steps to be taken by the scientists and other stakeholders to overcome these challenges. Prof S.N. Pasupalak, in his deliberation hinted upon the impact of climatic change on the global economy and the livelihood pattern of the people particularly the farmwomen of rural India. He also discussed on some of the possible alternatives to overcome the challenges. One souvenir was released in this programme. Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Head, Social Science Division, ICAR-NRRI, extending a warm vote of thanks.
The Inaugural session was followed by three technical sessions on i.) Climate Change and Empowerment of Farmwomen, ii). Climate Change, and women’s Health and iii). Social Dimensions of Climate Change. The sessions were chaired by Prof. Chakradhar Satpathy, Director Amity Humanity Research and Training Center, Bhubaneswar, Dr. Abha Mishra, State Head UNDP and Dr. Manju Dhrundyal, Deputy Director [retd.] NIPCCD, respectively.
The programme was attended by many reputed Dignitaries, Scientists and Researchers from across the state and nation. Scientists presented papers and shared their experience and findings making the programme really effective aching out a road map specifically for the farmwomen of our country to face the challenges of climate change. Best paper presenters of each technical sessions were honoured with awards.
At the end Mr. P.K. Satpathy, Advisor, Astitwa, Bhubaneswar congratulated all the award winners and thanked all the dignitaries, participants and service providers for making the programme a success.
