Project Launching workshop and Brainstorming Session on the Utilization of industrial wastes for reclamation of acid soils: Waste to wealth for promoting circular economy

A Project Launching workshop of project “Economic and environment-friendly utilization of Basic-Slag and Fly Ash as Soil amendments to Reclaim Acid soils of Odisha [SAFAR]: Waste to wealth for promoting circular economy (EAP 411)” followed by a Brainstorming Session on the “Utilization of industrial wastes for reclamation of acid soils: Waste to wealth for promoting circular economy” was organized at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack in Collaboration with the Cuttack Chapter of NAAS on 10th October, 2023. Participants from different organizations representing ICAR, Industry, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Startups, Farmers Producers Organization and State department officials from Govt. of Odisha have participated in the one-day workshop. Fruitful discussion was made about the utilization of industrial wastes (basic slag and fly ash) for reclamation of acid soils with special reference to six districts of Odisha viz. Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjar and Jharsuguda. The workshop was chaired by Dr. AK Nayak, Director of the institute. Chief guest of the function was Dr. A. Sarangi, Director, Institute of Water Management, Bhubaneswar. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Mohammad Shahid, Sr. Scientist, ICAR-NRRI. Among many other dignitaries graced the occasion the opening remarks regarding the brief introduction about the workshop and project have been delivered by Pratap Bhattacharyya, Head, Crop Production Division and Principal Investigator. The guest of honours Dr. PK Agrawal, NIBSM, Dr. A. Chatterjee, Vedanta Ltd. and Sri Roshan Das, Aarti Steel Ltd. have given their remarks. The project is funded by the funded by the State Government of Odisha under Innovative Project Scheme.
