Exposure visits of girls’ students ICAR-NRRI-CRURRS, Hazaribag under DST sponsored Vigyan Jyoti Programme

ICAR-NRRI-CRURRS, Hazaribag organized an exposure visit of girls’ students of class XII on 27 September 2023 as the knowledge partner of Vigyan Jyoti Programme operating at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Hazaribag. The Vigyan Jyoti Programme has been initiated by Department of Science & Technology, GOI at school level to encourage meritorious girl students of Class 9-12 to pursue higher education and career in different fields of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). A total of 52 girls’ students from three different schools of Hazaribag District viz., Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, KN+2 High School and +2 Zila School along with two teaching staffs participated in this programme. Dr. N. P. Mandal, Head of CRURRS briefed about the activities and achievements of this station and motivated the students to pursue their career in Agriculture discipline. Mr BP Tiwari, Teacher, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Hazaribag explained the aim and overall activities to be undertaken in Vigyan Jyoti Programme. The students were informed about the overall activities and facilities available at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack through virtual tour. The respective laboratory and field visits were conducted by Dr Somnath Roy (Plant Breeding), Dr B. C. Verma (Sr. Scientist, Soil Science), Dr Amrita Banerjee (Sr. Scientist, Plant Pathology), Dr Priyamedha (Scientist, Genetics and Plant Breeding) and Dr Soumya Saha (Scientist, Agronomy) and Dr Jitender Kumar (T3). All Scientists of CRURRS interacted with students, explained their work and clarified student’s queries. The programme was concluded with student’s feedback, vote of thanks and group photo.
