Three-day training Programme on “Quality seed Production in Rice” under Tribal Sub Plan Component” organized at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack

A Three-day training Programme on “Quality seed Production in Rice” under Tribal Sub Plan Component was organized at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack from 20-22 September 2023. Altogether 28 farmers (17 males, 11 women’s) from Bandasahi, Pitabari & Titrapanga villages of Phulbani, Kandhamal distict participated in this training programme. During the valedictory session, Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack discussed various facets of rice farming with all the participants. They showed their interest in post-harvest processing and value addition of rice and vegetables. During the discussion, Director advised all the scientists to work on developing storage structures to improve the shelf-life of vegetables such as potatoes and onions. Improving the shelf life of vegetables is an important aspect of post-harvest processing because it helps reduce food wastage and ensures a more stable food supply.
Eleven lectures on topics such as quality seed production, variety selection, seed health management, crop insect-pest management, crop disease management, seed storage & pest management, post-harvest processing and value addition in rice were delivered by the scientists of NRRI. In addition, they visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Santhapur to obtain first-hand knowledge on paddy seed production under upland direct seeded condition. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. B.C. Marndi, Senior Scientist and Dr. M. Chakraborty, Senior Scientist of Crop Improvement Division.
