Seminar on “Sustainable Rice Production under Climate Change”

As a part of on-going activities undertaken by the Govt. of India relating to India’s G20 Presidency a Seminar titled ‘Sustainable Rice Production under Climate Change’ was organized with joint collaboration of All India Radio, Cuttack and ICAR-National Rice Research Institute on 31st August 2023 at NRRI campus. About 120 participants attended the seminar. Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI said that it’s a proud moment for NRRI to be a part of G20 Presidency meeting which pertains to the need and importance of developing new cultivation practices and technologies that minimize greenhouse gas emissions, enhance input-use efficiency, and predict and respond to future climate threats. Besides, he also discussed the direct and indirect impact of climate change on agriculture and its solution through climate-smart agricultural technologies.
Shri T.K. Rout, Head of Programme, All India Radio, Cuttack highlighted that under India’s G20 Presidency, Govt. of India is focusing on various issues like inclusive growth, digital innovation, climate resilience, and equitable global health access. He explained how rice farmers are facing adversity as a result of climate change, which has a detrimental influence on food security. He also stated that the programme’s goal was to educate farmers about the climate-smart rice farming.
On this occasion, lectures were organized in which Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director of the Institute deliberated on ‘Climate resilient rice Production’, Dr. S.K. Dash, Principal Scientist spoke on ‘Climate resilient rice varieties’, Dr. Sangita Mohanty, Senior Scientist dwelt at length on ‘Water management in rice under climate change’ and Dr. P.C. Rath, Principal Scientist articulated on ‘Insect-pest management in rice under changing climate’.
Dr. B. Mondal, Organizing Secretary and Principal Scientist of Social Science Division welcomed the gathering and Shri D. Majhi, Programme Executive, All India Radio, Cuttack offered vote of thanks.
