ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack Successfully Organized Two-days Workshop for the Rice and Vegetable Seed Growers of West Bengal

The ICAR- National Rice Research Institute (NRRI), Cuttack in collaboration with the ICAR – Indian Institute of Vegetable Research (IIVR), Varanasi organized a two-days workshop on “Scientific Methods and Practices in Rice and Vegetables Seed Production” from 18th to 19th of August 2023 at Parasmoni Development and Research Foundation, Damodarpur, Bankura, West Bengal. Sixty-two farmers, rural youth, students, research scholars, and budding entrepreneurs from Bankura and Purulia districts of West Bengal actively participated in the workshop. At the outset, the organizing secretary of the workshop, Dr. Sudipta Paul, Senior Scientist gave a brief introduction about the workshop, its significance, and potential outcomes, and oriented the participants about the sessions to be conducted. A panel of scientists from NRRI, led by Dr. Mridul Chakroborty conducted an online session to cover several aspects of scientific rice seed production and storage. Dr. Manas Bag, Principal Scientist conducted a session on insect pest and disease management in rice seed production. Scientists from IIVR, Varanasi conducted sessions on vegetable seed production, and insect pest management. The workshop came to a successful conclusion with a valedictory session, chaired by the Director, Parasmoni Development and Research Foundation, participants’ feedback, and certificate distribution.
