Inauguration of Mushroom Spawn Production Unit at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack Marks a Milestone

A momentous occasion unfolded at the ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, as the Mushroom Spawn Production Unit, established with the generous support of the ICAR-Farmers FIRST Project, was inaugurated by Dr. A.K. Nayak, the esteemed Director of the institute on 77th Independence Day.
Dr. Nayak, in his address, underscored the far-reaching vision behind the establishment of the Mushroom Spawn Production Unit. He elucidated how mushroom cultivation stands as an impactful off-farm endeavour, poised to contribute significantly to doubling farmers’ income.
This inauguration marks a significant milestone not only for farmers but also for entrepreneurs, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs), opening doors to new and promising opportunities in the realm of mushroom farming. With the collaborative aspirations and unwavering endeavours of the community, the Mushroom Spawn Production Unit is set to enrich the growth and prosperity of not only the Farmers FIRST adopted villages but also beyond.
On this momentous occasion, the event was graced by the presence of Dr. (Mrs.) S. Samantaray, Head of Crop Improvement; Dr. S.D. Mohapatra, Head of Crop Protection; Dr. M.J. Baig, Head of Crop Physiology and Biochemistry; Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Head of Social Science; Dr. B. Mondal, Principal Investigator of the Farmers FIRST Project; Dr. S. Lenka, Principal Scientist and In-charge of the Unit, as well as other scientists and dedicated staff members of the institute.
