NRRI Organized ‘Farmers training and demonstration of bioagents for pest management in rice’ at Kandhamal district
Division of Crop Protection, ICAR-National Rice Research Institute organized ‘Farmers training and demonstration of bioagents for pest management in rice’ at Bandhasahi village, Kandhamal district on 14th October, 2019. This program was funded under the scheme of RKVY- RAFTAAR. Approximately 120 farmers from two villages, Bandhasahi and Pitabari have participated. On field demonstration was conducted on using different bioagents such as utilizing Trichogramma japonicum, Bracon hebetor, Bacillus thuringiensis, Trichoderma, Psuedomonas etc. Farmers were trained on biological suppression of insect pests and diseases using various bioagents. Event was presided over by Dr. P. C. Rath, Head, Crop Protection Division, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack who highlighted contribution of NRRI in biological control of pests. Dr. Basana Gowda G, PI of the Project demonstrated on effective pest monitoring and right time of utilizing bioagents for pest suppression. Mr. Swain, SWATI NGO, Kandhamal appreciated NRRI efforts in promoting biological control in the district. Dr. B. S. Sathpathy, Scientist, Crop Production Division Co-ordinated the event. Other scientists of the division Dr. Raghu S, Dr. G. P. Pandi, Dr. Prabhukarthikeyan S R, Mr. Annamalai have graced the occasion and educated farmers on different topics. At the end of the programme, pheromone traps, Tricho cards and Bracon cards were distributed which are expected to cover 120 Acre of rice area to manage stem borer and leaf folder.
