Brief note – Soil Health Day celebration by KVK Koderma
KVK Koderma celebrated World Soil Day on 5th December, 2018 in its Jainagar campus. The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest Shri Ashok Yadav, Gram pradhan of village Dandadih. Program was presided over by Dr. Dipankar Maiti, Officer-In-Charge, CRURRS, Hazaribag, and conducted by Dr Chanchila Kumari (I/C PC, KVK-Koderma). Dr D Maiti welcomed the chief guest other dignitaries and the participating farmers. During his deliberations he highlighted the importance of soil quality for food security, healthy ecosystem and human well-being. He explained that soil health is deteriorating and getting polluted day-by-day due unhealthy agricultural practices and also narrated the importance this year’s theme: “Be the solution to soil pollution”. During the programme the chief guest distributed 100 soil health cards among the farmers of Koderma district. In the technical session Dr. C.V. Singh, Sr. Scientist (CRURRS) and I/C KVK (K) elaborated the scientific guidelines for soil health management. Dr. S. Shekhar, SMS, KVK (K) narrated that with the indiscriminate use of chemicals the soil health has been deteriorated and there is urgent need to use the soil health management practices. Dr. C. Kumari stressed upon the importance of soils as a building block for sustaining both crop and animal life on a long-term basis. She also urged to the farmers for large scale adoption of soil testing and use of fertilizer on the basis of soil heath card. The programme was attended by 107 farmers of different villages of district Koderma.
