Pest Status and Crop Damage Assessment in Odisha’s Rice-Growing Regions

Following directives from the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, a team of scientists from ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack conducted a comprehensive survey in six districts of Odisha to assess the pest status and the damage caused to rice crop. The survey aimed to understand the extent of pest status and extent of pest damage of the state. The scientists, KVK and State Department staff visited key rice-producing districts viz., Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Cuttack on 24 September 2024. Their field assessments and interactions with local farmers provided crucial insights into the types of pests present, the severity of crop damage faced by the farmers. This survey will assist in formulating effective pest control strategies and safeguarding rice production in India.
