Training programmes on “Climate Smart soil management, irrigation techniques and pest management for sustainable rice farming with special emphasis on Direct Seeded Rice”
On the occasion of World Environment Day, as directed by Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, the ICAR-National Rice Research Institute organized week long campaign to promote awareness on Climate Resilient & Smart Agriculture. In this context, two Training programmes on “Climate Smart soil management, irrigation techniques and pest management for sustainable rice farming with special emphasis on Direct Seeded Rice”, which were conducted at village-Ranjhali, Block-Purushottampur, Dist-Ganjam on 26 May 2023 and at Rajualibindha, Block-Bhadrak, Dist-Bhadrak on 28 May 2023. The programme at Ranjhali was attended by about 70 farmers from village-Ranjhali, Paliama and Kushalapalli. The programme was chaired by Sarpanch, Ranjhalli and Dr. P.K. Mohapatra, Block Agriculture Officer of Purushottampur graced the occasion as Chief guest. The resource persons were Dr. B.S. Satapathy, Senior Scientist, ICAR-IIWM, Dr. Anjani Kumar, Senior Scientist, ICAR-NRRI, Dr. P.C. Jena, Senior Scientist, ICAR-NRRI, and Technology Promotion Officer of ATMA, Ganjam. On 28 May 2023, the training programme at Rajualibindha, was attended by Dr. P.C. Jena, Dr. B.S. Satapathy, Shri Sridhar Babu, DAO, Bhadrak and Shri Sudhakar Mahallik, village sarpanch representative. Hundred two farmers participated in the training. The farmers were made aware about benefits of direct seeded rice, like reduction in labour and associated costs, water conservation, enhanced productivity, environmental benefits etc. Information on selection of ecology specific suitable variety, sowing window for DSR, integrated weed management, nutrient and water management was also provided to the farmers.
