Training cum awareness camp on organic and natural farming at Lankapada, Tortol

A training cum awareness camp was organized by ICAR National Rice Research Institute (NRRI), Cuttack, Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) and local Non-Government Organization (NGO) BANDHU at Lankapada, Tirtol block, Jagatsinghpur district, Odisha. This programme was a part of the nationwide campaign “Annadata Devo Bhava” under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) to commemorate 75 years of Independence. About 65 farmers, local youth and farm women from more than 12 villages had joined the programme. The camp was organized to sensitize farmers about the organic and natural farming and their applications in rice and non-rice crops. The farmers were demonstrated the preparation of vermicompost, jeevamruta, ghanajeevamruta, beejamruta, neemastra, bramhastra, agnastra, various microbial products of NRRI, biocontrol agents etc. Scientists of NRRI Dr. Dibyendu Chatterjee, Dr. Bhabani Shankar Satapathy, Dr. Upendra Kumar, Dr. Basana Gouda, Dr. S. Raghu served as an expert in the technical session and demonstration, while Chandramani Mohapatra from BANDHU and Dr Tarakanta Nayak from INYAS helped in arranging logistics and mobilizing farmers for the training.
