Skill Training programme on “Integrated Farming System for rice production ecology” from 09-12 March, 2022 at ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack

Four day training programme on “Integrated Farming System for rice production ecology” was conducted at ICAR- National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack from 09 – 12 March, 2022, under the Project, “Development & Demonstration of Integrated Farming System for Livelihood Security of Small and Marginal Farmers in Coastal Odisha (EAP- 252)”. Twenty one participants belonging to diverse group farmers/ women/engineer/business man/ unemployed youths from Raghunathpur block of Jagatsinghpur district were in the training programme and got benefitted. The major objective of the training was to create awareness among the participants about the integrated farming system and how to integrate different enterprises scientifically with reduced cost of inputs through farm residue recycling, maximize productivity and profitability. Lecture were arranged from different ICAR institutes on integration and management of duckery and poultry by Dr. S. C. Giri, PDR, integration of horticultural components and intercropping by Dr. Govind Acharya, CHES, maximize productivity of system with low cost tuber crops by Dr. C. Laxminarayan, RC for CTCRI, how to integrate and manage honey bee for quality honey production, Dr. R. N. Mohapatra, OUAT, Agro-forestry: for long term monetary gain by Dr. Alok Patra, OUAT. Dr. D. P. Sinhababu, Consultant to Project briefed about site selection, land shaping and management about Rice-fish-duck integration whereas Dr R Mohanta SMS, KVK Santapur detailed about keeping ruminant animals and minor livestock as an integral part of the farming system. Dr. B. Gowda, Scientist explained about the bio-control agent, Dr. M. Bag briefed about the diseases and integrated control measure. Residue recycling and lowering input cost was briefed by Course Director DR. Annie Poonam, composting and vermin-composting through recycling of waste was emphasized upon by course Co-Director Dr. B. S. Satapathy( I). Details of mushroom cultivation for residue management and profitability was narrated by course co-director ( II) Dr. S. Lenka.

At the end release of training manual and valedictory function was conducted in the presence of Dare secretary & Honorable DG, ICAR where he distributed certificate to the participants. The function was attended by DDG (Fisheries), Director (Finance), Directors of IIWM, CIWA, CIFA and Head of RS of CTCRI, CHES, Bhubaneswar.
