Mr. Ronald Verdonk, Career Minister-Counselor & Dr. Santosh Singh, Agricultural Specialist, US Embassy, New Delhi visited ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack on 14th September, 2021

Mr. Ronald Verdonk, Career Minister-Counselor and Dr. Santosh Singh, Agricultural Specialist of US Embassy, New Delhi visited ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack on 14th September, 2021 with the aim of understanding the agricultural production situation in eastern India. Dr. Dipankar Maiti, Director received the Guests and appraised them about ongoing research and development works on rice in the Institute in particular and the country in general. Dr. B. C. Patra, Head, Crop Improvement Division explained them about origin of rice and its’ journey over the globe and mentioned about the varieties developed by Institute as well as biotechnological advancement in rice research. Dr. A. K. Nayak, Head, Crop Production Division acquainted them about climate resilient practices developed by the Institute and its significance in reducing carbon footprint, water footprint and emission of greenhouse gasses (GHGs). Dr. P.C. Rath, Head, Crop Protection Division stated about the prevalence of major insect-pests in the region and their control mechanism through adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices. Dr. Padmini Swain, Head, Crop Physiology and Biochemistry Division pointed about quality attributes and scope of a wide range of product development from rice. Dr. G.A.K. Kumar, Head, Social Science Division deliberated about socio-cultural issues associated with the rice farming in eastern region as well as in the country. Dr. Biswajit Mondal, Principal Scientist (Agricultural Economics) conversed regarding contribution of rice in national economy and export competitiveness of Indian rice in the global market.
Later the Guests visited various facilities of the Institute as well as research laboratories and few experimental fields. The whole visit was organized with strict adherence to Covid appropriate behavior.
