Field day cum training Programme on “Rice based integrated farming system”

A farmers field day cum training programme on “Rice based integrated farming system” was organized at Village : Pippalmadhab, Block : Tirtol, District : Jagatsinghpur on 08.11.2021, under the Project, “Development & Demonstration of Integrated Farming System for Livelihood Security of Small and Marginal Farmers in Coastal Odisha (EAP- 252)”.

Dr. S. K. Lenka Principal Scientist and Co- Principal Investigator welcomed all the delegates on the Dias, farmers and members of SHGs. Addressing to the farmers, Dr. Annie Poonam, Principal Scientist (Agronomy), and Principal Investigator of the Project briefed about the importance of integrated farming system and diversification of mono rice crop to raise the income of farm family in the coastal Odisha . Principal Investigator also briefed about the rice based integrated farming system models developed at ICAR-NRRI has been extended to the farmers field in the Ersama block (4 Nos) and Tirtol block (4 Nos) at Jagatsinghpur district. Mr. Saroj Mahapatra, Agricultural District Officer (Jagatsinghpur) briefed about the subsidy programme on IFS to be implemented in the 30 districts of Odisha and detail procedure of taking the subsidy. Mr. Pradipta Majhi, SMS KVK Nimkona briefed about the soil nutrient status and its affect on yield. Dr. D P Sinhababu, Principal Scientist (retd) and consultant of this project highlighted the method of integration of compatible components through land shaping into rice + fish + duck and other components on the dykes. He also emphasized on the importance of adoption of rice based integrated farming system in the coastal belt of Odisha through which the farmers will be benefited by improving and stabilizing the productivity and livelihood security of the farmers. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sahu ACTO (Fisheries) and Co- Principal Investigator briefed about the type of fishes and their management under the integrated rice based farming system. Research bulletin in Odia “Rice-Duck –Fish integrated agricultural practice & Backyard poultry production” was released by State officers and Scientists sitting on the Dias.

At the end, Dr. B. S. Satapathy Scientist and Co- Principal Investigator proposed the vote of thanks. Saplings of dwarf mango varieties , were distributed among the SHGs and farmers of the village and Self Help Group (SHG) women farmers of the village and fields were visited by all the Co- Principal Investigator and invitees from state department.
